Canadian escapologist Dean Gunnarson successfully escapes from the track of one of the fastest roller-coasters in Asia as the carriages approach. Gunnarson was handcuffed, chained, and padlocked around his arms and neck, and then chained to the tracks of the bullet coaster in Shenzhen city, China's Guangdong province. As the cars approached at their top speed of 135 km/h, Gunnarson had just 58 seconds to escape and then leap 10 metres from the track onto an air cushion before the coaster ran him down.

Workers stand on one of the spheres of Brussels' Atomium, during a cleaning operation. The 102-metre (335 feet) tall structure with its nine spheres symbolises a crystal molecule of metal with its atoms being magnified about 165 billion times. The cleaning of the Atomium, which was designed for the 1958 International Exhibition of Brussels and which received a multimillion-dollar facelift in 2006, will run for a full month. A team of five specialised workers take about three days to clean a ball, each of which has a surface area of 1000 square metres (10,764 square feet).
